This 12 Days Best of Kenya and Tanzania Safari starts with an overnight stay in Nairobi, exploring Nairobi on the second morning before travelling into the beautiful Great Rift Valley. Take an optional boat cruise on Lake Naivasha and travel on to the ultimate East African wildlife duo – Kenya’s flagship reserve, the Masai Mara National Reserve, and Tanzania’s leading safari destination, Serengeti National Park. Explore the quintessential African savannahs teeming with wildlife, spotting the Big Five and witnessing the Great Wildebeest Migration in season.

Next on Tanzania’s famous Northern Safari Circuit – go game viewing in Ngorongoro Crater, home to an incredible abundance of wild animals, and scenic Lake Manyara Park, known for its prolific birdlife. Then return to Kenya, journeying to Amboseli National Park – our final game viewing destination, where big elephants roam freely with Mount Kilimanjaro as a backdrop.

Itinerary

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Kenya, you will be met by your safari guide and taken to our booked hotel in Nairobi, where you spend the first night of our Best of Kenya and Tanzania Parks Safari.

Begin day two with an early breakfast before checking out of your room and storing your luggage at the hotel. Then we embark on a short sightseeing tour of Nairobi, Kenya's capital city. Our city tour takes in historical highlights and places of interest such as the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, the Giraffe Centre and the Karen Blixen museum. The tour is followed by a hot lunch in Nairobi.

This afternoon we head for Lake Naivasha, a beautiful freshwater lake outside the town of Naivasha, in the Great Rift Valley area. Along the way, we stop at a lookout point to enjoy the beautiful views out over the Great Rift Valley Escarpment.
We have dinner and overnight at our booked accommodation near Lake Naivasha in Kenya.

This morning we have the chance to take a boat cruise on Lake Naivasha. Lake Naivasha is the most elevated of the Great Rift Valley Lakes, nearly 1900m above sea level. The boat trip offers excellent opportunities for spotting wildlife and birds up close and soaking up the scenery. Look out for hippos, monkeys, giraffes, other game and a rich array of birds as we cruise along on the shallow lake. We leave Lake Naivasha behind at about 10:00 am, driving down to the most famous wildlife destination in Kenya, Masai Mara Game Reserve, with a stop for lunch at an hotel en route.

We reach the Masai Mara and enjoy an afternoon game drive on our way to at our booked accommodation. Masai Mara Reserve hosts a permanent population of plains game and Africa’s Big Five - elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and rhino are commonly sighted. Enjoy the classical savannah scenery as we drive across the open plains and hills of this East African gem. Our rewarding drive brings us to our booked accommodation in Masai Mara for dinner and overnight.

Today we embark on a morning and afternoon game drive in Masai Mara Game Reserve, offering superb wildlife sightings. Masai Mara is home to the world-famous Wildebeest Migration and is also renowned for its big cats, namely lion, leopard and cheetah. This is one of the best safari destinations in the world, considered a quintessential African wildlife haven. After our thrilling day of game viewing, we return to our booked accommodation for our second overnight near Masai Mara.

After breakfast, we pack up and leave our accommodation in the Masai Mara taking a picnic lunch along for the long drive. Today’s journey takes us from the Masai Mara across the Isebania and Serari border into Tanzania. Entering Tanzania we travel to the Speke Bay area of Lake Victoria which is the second-largest freshwater lake in the world and the largest in Africa. Half the lake is within Tanzania whilst also being bordered by Kenya and Uganda.
Our long day of cross-border travel brings us to our booked accommodation near Speke Bay for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, we can choose from a range of optional (extra cost) activities on or near Lake Victoria. At about midday we will have an early lunch and then head for the Serengeti National Park via Ndabaka Gate. If there is enough time we will take an en route game drive in the Serengeti Park, one of the top Northern Tanzania Safari Circuit game parks.

On day seven we wake up and enjoy a hearty breakfast, before heading off on a game viewing drive in the Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti Park is the largest national park in Tanzania, covering about 14,763 km² in area. Serengeti Park is also famous for predator populations, including lion, cheetah, leopard and hyena. This Tanzania wilderness area also hosts a wide variety of birdlife, estimated to be in the region of 500 species. We return to our safari lodge after an adventure-packed day of game viewing, for dinner and our overnight stay at our booked accommodation in Serengeti National Park.

After breakfast, we set off on another day of game viewing in Serengeti National Park taking a picnic lunch along. We explore various areas of the Serengeti, like Moro kopjes and Gol kopjes, with our safari guide. The expansive grasslands are interspersed by rocky outcrops called Kopjes, jutting up like islands out of the flat plains. Each of these geographic features supports their own wildlife communities. We visit the Seronera River that flows through the Serengeti, creating habitats for a variety of birds, mammals and reptiles.

In the afternoon we drive to Nabi Hill gate where we stop for a picnic lunch. After lunch, we will depart for the Malanja Depression and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, our next stop on this Kenya and Tanzania safari. This evening’s accommodation is located at the contours of the Ngorongoro Crater rim. We enjoy dinner and overnight at our booked accommodation.

Today after breakfast get ready for the wildlife spectacle known as Africa's Eden. We descend 2,200 feet to the floor of the crater for a thrilling day of game viewing.
The Ngorongoro Crater is home to Africa's Big Five, as well as being one of the few places in Africa where the rare black rhino is found. The high concentration of animals in this 12-mile wide crater ensures superb game viewing. Ngorongoro is one of the Tanzania Northern Safari Circuit destinations, as is our next stop Lake Manyara.
We return from a rewarding game viewing experience in the evening and have dinner at our booked accommodation near Lake Manyara.

After breakfast we head into Lake Manyara National Park, one of the finest parks in Tanzania. At Manyara we embark on a morning and afternoon game drive, with your choice of a picnic lunch or lunch at your safari lodge.

Lake Manyara is best known for its rich birdlife hosting a variety of waterbirds and migrant species, including massive flamingo flocks at times. Animal sightings include black and white rhino, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and baboon, as well as leopard.
In the afternoon we visit Mto wa Mbu Village and the Great Rift Valley before returning to our accommodation for dinner and another overnight stay.

On day 11 we head to the town of Arusha after breakfast, with a picnic lunch. After lunch, we continue to Amboseli National Park, our next safari destination.
We cross the Tanzania and Kenya border at Namanga Manyara and proceed to Amboseli National Park. Situated at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro (19 430) near the border between Kenya and Tanzania, Amboseli is famous for its large herds of elephants flanked by scenic Mount Kilimanjaro.

If time allows we will take a game drive en route to our booked accommodation for the night. We may see elephant, giraffe, buffalo and many more wildlife species along the way. We have dinner and relax at our booked accommodation near Amboseli Park.

Have breakfast at the lodge on the final day of this Best of Kenya and Tanzania Parks Safari before taking a morning game drive in Amboseli National Park.
